The Story Behind SharpWebP

SharpWebP started with a frustration that every web developer knows: you spend hours crafting the perfect design, only to watch your images turn into a blurry mess after optimization. Existing tools forced you to choose between file size and quality. The "optimized" images they produced were riddled with artifacts, banding, and pixelation.

I set out to build something better. As a solo developer, I spent months researching image processing algorithms, experimenting with supersampling techniques, and building a quality verification pipeline that ensures every output meets strict perceptual quality thresholds.

The result is SharpWebP: an optimization engine that uses 4x supersampling, multi-pass Lanczos filtering, and content-aware processing to deliver WebP files that are dramatically smaller than the originals without any visible quality loss. Every image is verified against SSIM and PSNR benchmarks before it reaches you.
